This Vegan BBQ Sauce is sweet, smoky, tangy, and ready in just 5 minutes with simple pantry ingredients. I love how convenient this no-cook recipe is because you only need to whisk everything together, and you can easily adjust the flavor to your taste.

Traditional barbecue sauce often contains Worcestershire sauce made with anchovies. For this vegan version, I use Vegan Worcestershire Sauce along with ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, and a few spices to create that classic BBQ flavor without any animal products.
Use it as a dipping sauce for fries, onion rings, vegan nuggets, or vegan chicken, or brush it over tofu, tempeh, vegetables, and burgers. You can also make it ahead and keep it in the fridge, so it's ready whenever you need an easy sauce for weeknight dinners, cookouts, or meal prep.

Why You'll Love This Vegan BBQ Sauce
Why this one is worth trying:
- Quick and no-cook: Just whisk everything together and it's ready in less than 5 minutes.
- Made with simple ingredients: It uses easy-to-find pantry staples, so you can make it whenever you need a quick sauce.
- Sweet, smoky, and tangy: Brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and vegan Worcestershire sauce create that classic BBQ flavor.
- Easy to adjust: You can add more sugar, vinegar, mustard, or smoked paprika to make it taste just the way you like.
- Great for so many dishes: Use it for dipping, spreading, brushing, marinating, or serving with tofu, burgers, sandwiches, and vegetables.

Vegan BBQ Sauce Ingredients
- Ketchup: Use your favorite brand. Regular or organic ketchup both work.
- Brown sugar: Light or dark brown sugar both work. You can also use granulated sugar, cane sugar, or coconut sugar, although the flavor may be slightly different.
- Apple cider vinegar: White vinegar or red wine vinegar are good substitutes.
- Vegan Worcestershire sauce: I use my homemade Vegan Worcestershire Sauce, but a store-bought version also works. Make sure it is labeled vegan, as traditional Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies.
- Yellow mustard: Dijon mustard also works, but it will give the sauce a slightly sharper flavor.
- Smoked paprika: Adds the smoky flavor. Regular paprika works, but the sauce will be less smoky.
- Onion powder: Adds savory flavor without changing the texture.
- Garlic powder: Fresh garlic is not ideal here because this is a no-cook sauce.
- Black pepper: Add more or less to taste.

How to Make Vegan BBQ Sauce

- Place all the ingredients in a bowl.

- Mix until the sauce is completely smooth.
Tips for the Best Results
- Let it rest before serving: Refrigerate the sauce for at least 30 minutes so the flavors have time to blend and the brown sugar can fully dissolve.
- Adjust after chilling: Taste it again once it has rested, as the vinegar, mustard, and spices will mellow slightly in the fridge.
- Use a smooth ketchup: A thicker, smooth ketchup gives the sauce the best texture and helps everything blend evenly without cooking.
- Add smokiness gradually: Smoked paprika can vary in intensity, so start with the listed amount and add more only if needed.
- Thin it only if necessary: If the sauce is too thick for brushing or marinating, whisk in water 1 tablespoon at a time until it reaches the consistency you want.

Serving Suggestions

- Tofu Chicken Nuggets or Vegan Chicken Nuggets: Serve it as a dipping sauce for an easy snack, appetizer, or game day spread.

How to Store Vegan BBQ Sauce
- Fridge: Store the sauce in an airtight container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir well before using.
- Freezer: Freeze it in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months, leaving a little room at the top for expansion.
- Thaw: Let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then stir until smooth before serving.

Keep it sealed for at least 1 to 2 weeks? Does that mean wait for it to tast different before consuming or did you mean up to 2 weeks?
Iosune says
Hi Raum! No, you don't have to wait, you can enjoy it immediately, but you need to consume it in 1-2 weeks 🙂

I used 1 15 oz can tomato paste, same as puree I believe. Omitted maple syrup and sugar, replaced with 8 pitted medjool dates. Used 3/4 cups water, 2 TB yellow mustard and 2 TB smoked paprika. Added apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper as stated in recipe. Blended all in my vita mix until hot. Quick and very tasty!
