Applesauce, a simple and sweet recipe. It's healthy and delicious, and you can use it in plenty of different dishes. To make it you only need 5 ingredients!
Place the apples, sugar, water, cinnamon stick, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Cook over high heat until the mixture starts to boil, then cook the applesauce over medium heat for 40 minutes or until you get a perfect consistency.
Remove the cinnamon stick.
You can blend the applesauce or use a masher or a fork, but this step is optional.
Serve it with some bread and eat it as a healthy snack, or use it as an egg substitute in baking. A regular egg would be ¼ cup of applesauce (1 tbsp). It works great with recipes like vegan brownies or vegan pancakes.
Keep the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-7 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. To thaw, transfer it to the fridge 1 or 2 days before eating it.
Notes
You can use any kind of apples to make this recipe.
I used coconut sugar, but feel free to use any type of sweeteners like stevia or date syrup. You can omit it if you want to.
I suggest you add a little bit of sugar first, then try the applesauce and if you feel like it needs to be sweeter, add some more of it.
Lemon juice will help this recipe keep longer in good condition. You can omit it if you want your applesauce to be super sweet, though.
This recipe is perfect for using apples that have almost gone bad.
