Vegan Worcestershire sauce, flavorful and easy to prepare. It is such a simple recipe that requires 8 ingredients and is made in 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups apple cider vinegar (480 ml)
  • ½ cup soy sauce or tamari (125 ml)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup (60 ml)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp ground ginger

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a saucepan and whisk until well combined.
  2. Bring to a boil, and then simmer until the liquid is reduced by half (about 15 to 20 minutes).
  3. Strain the vegan Worcestershire sauce and let it cool before using and serve with recipes like vegan steak, vegan sausages, or cauliflower steak.
  4. Keep the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 months.

Notes

  • Apple cider vinegar is my favorite one for this recipe, but you could use other types of vinegar, like wine vinegar.
  • Feel free to customize your vegan Worcestershire sauce with any type of sweetener instead of maple syrup. Agave syrup is the best alternative though. However, granulated or brown sugar are also good choices.
  • For a gluten-free version of this recipe, feel free to use tamari instead of soy sauce. If you don’t consume soy, coconut aminos is a great substitute. You could also add the same amount of water or vegetable stock and add more salt.
