Although is not super easy to find vegan food at Spanish restaurants, there are a few dishes you can find at many of them. There are also more vegetarian than vegan restaurants, but they also have vegan food.
In Seville (Sevilla in Spanish) you can find easily spinach with chickpeas (espinacas con garbanzos), salmorejo (a cold tomato soup similar to gazpacho, but it’s usually served with egg and ham on top, so you have to order it without these to ingredients), fried eggplant with cane syrup (berenjenas con miel de caña) be careful because some restaurants add honey instead, patatas bravas (some restaurants add also ali oli or mayonnaise besides the brava sauce), salads (ensaladas) or French fries (patatas fritas).
To find vegan desserts or sweet treats is much harder (churros are vegan!), that’s why I’m in love with this little bakery located in “El Arenal”, a market in the center of Seville.
They also have juices and soy milkshakes and serve savory vegan food on weekends. You can find traditional Spanish food and other international dishes like burritos or burgers.
In the pictures below you can see what we ate. All the food was so delicious and we’ll back soon!
Olivier salad (ensaladilla rusa) is a very popular “tapa” here in Spain. It’s not a vegan dish, but it’s really easy to make a vegan version, we’ll share the recipe this week!
“Empanada de pisto” is a pie filled with pisto (the Spanish version of the French ratatouille). All mediterranean countries have a traditional recipe similar to this delicious dish.
Vegan torrijas. Torrijas are a typical Spanish dessert of Lent and Holy Week and they are very similar to French toast. We ate at Veganitessen last Holy Week, so I suppose you can’t find vegan torrijas all year long.
Chocolate and banana crumble (crumble de chocolate y plátano).
Peanut bomb cake (bomba de chocolate).
We also buy the delicous pastries you can see in the pictures below to share with our non-vegan family and they loved them! You should try the croissant, it’s to die for!
If you visit Seville, don’t forget to eat at this cozy and lovely place. The staff is really nice and the food is amazing! In addition, is the only vegan bakery/restaurant in Seville.
